Boy that is what it is when you try to get rid of some of the bloat software that comes on a new computer. For instance, I bought a new Sony VGN-FW351j 16″ laptop that runs on 64 bit with 4MB of RAM.
It came with Vista and I can’t really complain about the Vista software, because I happen to think it’s much better than the XP . I’ve even witnessed it fix itself a couple times and others have said the same.
But I do miss the file manager XP has because moving files around takes two windows, (at least that’s about the only way I can get a file to go where I want it to. Say like: I want to put and image into my flash drive, but it will only let me put it in the root of it unless I open another window and open the file on the flash drive, then I have to cut and past it. Tell me is there a better way I don’t know about?
My Real complaint is with the bloat software Sony managed to come up with. Like they have this thing called VAIO Care. Just try to get rid of it. Yeah I went through uninstall and then Services, but I still have this box that pops up – trying to connect to the internet. But there isn’t enough files left of it to even run. It surely screws thing up when you are dealing with files and trying to upload files to a server. I tried the phone call to support and the remote assistance, but all that goof ball tried to do is what I told him I’d already done. I couldn’t make out what he was saying half the time because it sounded like I had a Asian college kid on the line with a party going on in the background. Then he says call back when there is a second level guy to help me and gave me a silly report number.
Tell me why you can’t buy a computer with only a bios on it? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could by a computer with a bios and the necessary drivers for the hardware on it and a blank drive to boot up what ever clean software you want? (Ah- there is my VAIO care – again.) At Least I think Dell is letting people order a new computer with Linux on it.
So now I’m trying to install Linux on mine and I have to wonder if Samsung the maker of my printer has ever thought of making drivers for Linux. (But from what I gather, Linux can use Windows drivers, however finding them hidden within the Microsoft system tends to be a problem.)
I can tell you already I like Linux better – even though I haven’t finished with installing it completely.
And Sony has this thing called administrator or something or other that tries to log on. What the hell is that? I search on the internet and I’m not the only one who is scratching their heads.
